ten year reading list

2025: The Better Friend by Grace Valentine

This book is perfect as I grow into my own shoes and come to college. There are probably gonna be many times I feel alone, or am handling friend breakups, and it is just something I need to learn to navigate.

2026: Pride and Prejudice By Jane Austen

Honestly, this book is such a classic, but I have actually never even touched it. I would definitely be interested in watching the movie as well. At this point of my life, I'd be reaching my twenties, so it would be a great start to adulting.

2027: The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa

This is more of a post apocalyptic dystopian type read where things just start going missing in an island. And if you remember what happened, the memory police come for you. I feel this would really show me why we place meaning on the things that we do.

2028: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

Another classic that I definitely want to get into. With the uncanny gothic elements, it would be such an interesting read especially in the midst of college.

2029: Normal People by Sally Rooney

Such an important book that emphasizes the types of friends and relationships you can have, all in relation to your mental health and your financial status in life. It is definitely something that I want to read and implement in my future as I mature into a young adult, especially as I should be graduating college right now.

2030: I Who Have Never Known Men by Jaqueline Harpman

This book really defines womanhood as it follows the story of 40 woman trapped in a bunker, and their survival after. It speaks so much about what defines us as woman and what really happens when you are just left there surviving on your own.

2031: Near to The Wild Heart by Clarice Lispector

This book flashes from the life of the main character, between her present, as a young woman, and her early childhood. This focus is on the inner emotions, and the inner mental health.

2032: The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

This would be something that would motivate me to do something in the "now" rather than waiting, but more than that, being okay with change. At this point of my life, I would be seeking higher education and would most likely move further away from home, and I have to learn to be okay with that.

2033: Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi

Shows that everything essentially happens for a reason. This is something I so firmly believe in right now, and I hope that at this point of my life, I also continue to believe it. Just in case I don't, this would be the perfect wakeup call.

2034: The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

This book dives deep into mental health, identity, and the pressure to fit into society’s expectations. Plath’s writing is raw and honest, and a lot of what she expresses still hits hard today. If you’ve ever felt like you’re supposed to have it all figured out but secretly don’t, this one will feel painfully relatable.
